Finasteride (Proscar)

Finasteride is a medication primarily used to treat conditions related to hair loss and prostate enlargement. It works by inhibiting the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase, which converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone linked to hair follicle shrinkage and prostate growth. By reducing DHT levels, finasteride helps to slow hair loss and promote hair regrowth in men with male pattern baldness. Additionally, it is prescribed to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), an enlarged prostate condition, helping to improve urinary flow and reduce symptoms.
